Yaounde:CRM’s Convention Crashes For Fear Of Public Order Disruption

A planned extraordinary convention of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, CRM, party, has failed to hold.

Slated for Saturday, November 29 at the party’s headquarters in Yaounde, the meeting was forced to crash on the orders of the Divisional Officer, DO, of Yaounde IV Subdivision.

In a communique signed on Thursday, November 27, the DO cited the fear of disruption of public order.

The Senior Administrative Officer warned that violation of the order is punishable by article 231 of the Penal Code.

He alerted the Brigade Commander of the Gendarmerie of Odza and Commissioner of Public Security of the 15th District Police Station of the city of Yaounde to execute the order.

It was on the strength of this that precautionary measures were put in place to avert the holding of the convention with security forces deployed to the headquarters of CRM and the residence of Prof Maurice Kamto.

Speculations are rife that the decision to dispatch troops to the residence of Prof Kamto was hinged on the fact the extraordinary convention had on its agenda, his reinstatemen as the national president of the party.

During the build up to the October 12, 2025, presidential election in Cameroon, Prof Kamto stepped down and joined a different political party so as to be eligible for the contest but his request was quashed by the Constitutional Council.
