Yaounde:Eto’o Fils Gets Fresh Mandate As FECAFOOT President

The incumbent president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto’o Fils, has been re-elected for a fresh four year mandate at the helm of the football body.
This implies, Eto’o’s new term of office ends in 2029.

Eto’o was re-elected on Saturday, November 29, 2025, during the Elective General Assembly of FECAFOOT that held at the Confederation of African Football, CAF, Excellence Centre, Mbankomo, Yaounde.

He secured an overwhelming victory of 85 out of 87 votes. Two ballots were declared null and void.
Eto’o obtained a score of 97.7 percent.

The incumbent stood unchallenged as he was the sole candidate for the presidency of FECAFOOT.
The election commission had earlier declared that other aspirants did not meet the eligibility criteria for FECAFOOT’s top job.

The Elective General Assembly of FECAFOOT had in attendance representatives of the world football governing body, FIFA, and Confederation of African Football, CAF.

The Ministry of Territorial Administration, MINAT, was aptly represented alongside the Divisional Officer, DO, of Mbankomo Subdivision, Ebella Ngambi Vichy.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Prof Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, was absent, and no representative of the ministry showed up at the meeting.

Kombi had earlier suspended the elective general assembly on grounds it poses a serious threat to public peace and order.

He then wrote to the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, to assist in enforcing the decision, but the latter did not grant his request.

Atanga ignored the plea and instead dispatched his representative to observe the election.

Analysts regard this as a humiliation to Minister Kombi, who has been at loggerhead with Eto’o ever since the latter was elected for his first mandate in December 2021.
The duo have clashed over the management of Cameroon’s national football team, the Indomitable Lions, especially with the appointment of its current coach, Marc Brys.

In the meantime, while the elective general assembly was on course in the hall, a small group of football stakeholders manifested a protest outside the CAF Excellence Centre.
Though they called for the annulment of the election for some reasons, their voices seemed to have been swallowed in the euphoria to give the incumbent a fresh mandate.

With a new term of office, FECAFOOT boss will have as immediate task, the effective participation of the Indomitable Lions in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations’ tournament to begin on December 21, 2025, in Morocco.
Having missed its qualification for next year’s FIFA World Cup, many are of the opinion that Fecafoot should go an extra mile to ensure the trophy comes home when the tournament wraps up on January 18, 2026.
