
SOWEDA Distributes Inputs To Boost Tomato, Cocoa Production The South West Development Authority, SOWEDA, has distributed a consignment of farm inputs to boost the production of tomatoes and cocoa in the South West Region of Cameroon.The farm inputs worth the sum of Twenty two ( 22,000,000) FCFA were handed to 60 selected beneficiary farmer groups from the six divisions of the South West Region.The farmers received the recommended materials to include push trucks, sprayers, water cans, chemicals such as fungicides, manure, among other things.Expressing gratitude after receiving the items, the beneficiaries thanked the government through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as well as SOWEDA for the assistance.They promised to make judicious use of the inputs to boost production.To them, the gesture was timely.The South West Development Authority, SOWEDA, was created in 1987. It became official by Decree No.87/1874. The administrative public establishment is an arm of the government in the South West Region, serving as overseer in identifying and implementing government’s programmes, with the ultimate goal of improving on the socio-economic and social development of the people of the South West Region.As the official seed sower of the South West Region, SOWEDA is placed under the supervisory authority of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The activities of SOWEDA are funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Finance.It is endowed with a legal personality and financial autonomy.SOWEDA’s chief mission is the continuous pursuit of ways to raise the standards of living of the rural population through agricultural development and the improvement of infrastructures such as roads, markets, water supply schemes, and electrification projects. SOWEDA is also charged with providing soft loans, proposing development projects to donors, and the establishment continues to serve as a centre for holding information on development.To fully achieve its goals, SOWEDA works in close collaboration with its supervisory authority, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
